Evaluation
After finishing my animation I am fairly happy with my performance I have put lots of work in to make a good quality piece, which is of a professional standard. When it came to the research I found that I lacked a little bit of inspiration and creative ideas I overcome this by looking at old animations, as well as existing animations.
Once I had finished my work I was extremely happy with the standard of the finished article. It looks attractive, modern, sleek and most of all very typical of the style of the animations I was trying to emulate. I worked hard and created a animation I felt would appeal to my target audience.
After looking at the feedback sheets provided to me by my colleagues, I am extremely happy with what I have heard. The main response I got was that the advert was pleasant to watch and was interesting and kept their attention. There is a number of key points I have found after analyzing the evaluation sheets firstly I am extremely happy that the majority of the viewers understood the basic narrative structure they all say that the storyline was linear and consistently explain the storyline, which is always important if a viewers does not understand what is going on then the piece will never be successful. The main genre that people have put down is comedy, which is the genre I was trying to portray so I have been successful and my comedic ideas have influenced the animation. Some people have also sated that the genre is also music which is what I was also trying to get across in my work, I wanted the soundtrack to play a massive influence on the viewer was it was a iconic sonic which is instantly associated with zombies due to the success of the Michael Jackson video this would help the viewer associate my horror character with the iconic video. The main style people have described the advert as is fun which is what I was trying to get across I wanted a stress free no strings attached video people could chill out and watch with no hassle, my animation is laidback viewing at its prime I also wanted to give it a strong association with the talent show which is so successful at the moment which is constantly showing fun and comedy acts who are similar to disco Dave.
The main narrative I was trying to portray was linear as I wanted my animation to start and flow straight to the end and this is what most people felt was portrayed in my feedback they say the narrative was well structured and easy to follow. The characters I used have been described as “excellent” and “well designed and manipulated” people have also commented about the Britain’s got talent voices saying its “cool” and different which is also good as I wanted to make them subtle and not the main focus of the work. The technique I used was cut out animation which has been identified by everyone I used this style because I felt it would be easy to manipulate the character sufficiently people have commented on how good the manipulation looked. However I believe if I had spent more time I would have been able to create a better looking form of movement by maybe using smaller gaps between each individual image this may of helped by animation look more professional and smoother. However the majority of the viewers seam to think it was good quality.
Scrren shot on the right shows the leg not attached fully to the torsow which was spotted by Pamel Keenan “ Leg falling of body” I would address this next time by making sure every frame is moved using smaller movements.
They also often state how good the camera work was and the angle was perfect for the type of piece however I believe if I used a few different angles it might of gave the animation a different perspective which could of pushed it to the next level.
A few people also commented that the background was slightly boring therefore next time I would make a backdrop using brought and fun colours showing more detail which could improve peoples opinions of my work aesthetically. A good example of this is the backdrop used by Michael Robinson which you can see on the right he has clearly put lots of detail and effort into creating a attractive looking scene.
The screen shot on the right shows the basic angle used in the animation which people commented saying “ camera angle was excellent” and “good camera work”
The main positive points, which come across in my animation, are
• Good choice of music
• Good quality cut out character
• Positive entreating storyline
• Strong comedic values
• Entertaining
• Good movement of Character
The main negatives are
• “Bit boring” which I agree with because I feel the dancing goes on for to long
• To long
• Sometimes animation not smooth and lacks flow – I believe this is true because sometimes it appears slightly jerky and not fluid.
People have also said that the credits were very basic and could be more exciting. Which if I was to do this assignment again I would address by spending more time on them.
After looking at all the points for and against I have taken on board all the constructive criticism next time I would organize my self slightly better, I would do a weekly plan/diary, it is important to keep on top of work at all times because to much stress can have negative impact on performance which brings overall standards down. I Next time I would also do more research so that I would have as much possible background knowledge of existing works which would improve the standard of my own.
Overall I believe I have worked hard and produced a quality of work, which should achieve a decent grade, I have thoroughly enjoyed this assignment.
